Level 1 sewing

Learn how to hem your own pants, sew on your own buttons and the very basics of sewing! This course is based on hand work, with the option to bring in your sewing machine for the second and third  classes.

Supplies Provided: needles, muslin, thread for each person.

PLEASE BRING:

  • pen/pencil and paper for notes.
  • any sewing supplies you already have.

Day 1:

Discussion of Tools to purchase for future classes:
If you have none for the first class, that’s ok, we’ll discuss the following so that you can purchase what you need to complete your basic sewing kit for day 2:

Basic sewing kit: needles, thread, rulers, thimbles, scissors, stitch ripper, chalk/pencil

Hand stitches:
demonstration and practical application in hemming, repairs, replacing buttons…

Day 2: Machines  for those who have machines, they can bring them in, along with their manual.  Also, please bring your Basic sewing kit.

For those without, the guidelines may help in future purchases…

One machine will be provided for general testing.

Day 3:Machines  for those who have machines, they can bring them in along with their manual.  One machine will be provided for general testing. Also bring your Basic sewing kit.

General review and practice with machine sewing and hand work.
You’ll leave with a finished project.

Some time to answer personal project questions will be allotted.
